I know it might be a stupid question, and i will probably realize i know what it is after you tell me, but for right now i’m so stumped on what it is!
What are some bands that sing ‘indie’ music.
Thanks so much ![]()
Indie music is short for independent music, which is music released from an independent record label, as opposed to a major record label.
A lot of people think it’s a genre, like there’s a specific sound to it and it fits in with pop, rap, rock, whatever. Maybe it’ll just sound raw, but other than that, there can be indie pop, indie rap, indie rock (which is the most popular), etc.
So, if you were to look specifically for indie bands, look for independent record labels (there’s tons), and then you find indie bands. Some examples include Domino Records, XL Recordings, and Sub Pop Records.

Indie music is supposed to be short for ‘Independent’. Meaning that it’s music that’s produced, recorded and released independently from the popular charts and major record labels. Actually, a lot of indie music is now pretty commercial so the name itself is pretty meaningless.
Some indie bands are:
Arctic Monkeys
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Bloc Party
Pavement
Pigeon Detectives
Oasis
The Smiths
Arcade Fire
The Killers
There’s hundreds…
