Audacity is a good piece of freeware for home recording and mixing.

I am liking Magix Samplitude Music Studio 15. It has the same audio engine as Samplitude Pro which is a $1000. program. It also has midi which Audacity and others do not. comes with a lot of instruments and effects. I believe its under $75.00
