What is the best music theory book?


I teach violin and would like an idea of some of your favorite music theory books. Workbooks are good, but theory books as well – especially those that concentrate or really explain scales and keys.

      Of the ones I’ve read, all of these are very good;

      Harmony and Voice Leading – Aldwell and Schachter
      Harmony – Walter Piston
      Mark Levine – Jazz Theory Book
      Counterpoint – Walter_Piston
      Classical form – William E. Caplin

      Ranked in order of how student friendly and relevant they are.

      Suzuki ( A whole different method, but good anyway)
