As Tears Go By, Marianne Faithfull (lyrics on the right)

As Tears Go By sung by Marianne Faithfull written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards and their then manager, Andrew Loog Oldham. As Tears Go By sung by Marrianne Faithfull … The Stones manager, Andrew Oldham, gave it to a singer he also managed named Marianne Faithfull, who released it in 1964. It was going to be the B-side of her first single, but the record company decided to make it the A-side and it became her first hit. The Stones recorded it a year later. Faithfull became Mick Jagger’s girlfriend in 1966. Their tumultuous relationship ended 3 years later. In that time, she helped write “Sister Morphine” and gave Jagger the book that inspired “Sympathy For The Devil.” It reached no. 9 in the British charts and launched her career as a major singer. The song entered the Billboard Hot 100 in America the week ending November 28, 1964, where it stayed for nine weeks peaking at 22. As Tears Go By lyrics It is the evening of the day, I sit and watch the children play. Smiling faces I can see, but not for me, I sit and watch as tears go by. My riches can’t buy ev’rything, I want to hear the children sing. All I hear is the sound of rain falling on the ground, I sit and watch as tears go by. It is the evening of the day, I sit and watch the children play. Doin’ things I used to do they think are new. I sit and watch as tears go by.
