I am a fourteen year who is a young musician. I was wondering if anyone knows of any record companies that publish young musicians. First I guess I should make a CD. I have no recording equipment though. Anyway, does anyone know of any companies or not?
Well you’ll have to not only have good music, but you’ll have to of recorded your cd, ask your school often they can help you out with recording as they often have the equiptment, most do. When You Have recorded your cd you must have a sort of SA of who you are, your style of music and personality. After that you must sell a few cd’s to get them interested. Sales catch their eye a lot, about 1000 should, do (I know A Lot) Record companies will hire someone talented of your age, as long as you have all the above, just send it to every record label you can,

First, being fourteen really doesn’t matter. However, you’ll want to get your parent / guardian permissions before you get to hot n heavy. Legal issues are there, labor and industry law for one. Cover your basis with a simple written permission slip of sorts.
Two, having a CD will drastically improve your chances of being discovered, but you are right, most people, fourteen or not, don’t have the equipment needed to make a quality CD.
I assume your in school at your age. Check with your schools music department or band. Sometimes they have access to needed gear. If worse comes to wrose, use the time for you and your crew get with the music department for additional school credits!
Three, from experience, there is a free resource available to everyone that actually works. It’s called YouTube. You can make a video using a standard video camera and upload it to the site. After you’ve done this, copy down the site addy and email that link to everyone you know. Ask those you know to pass it on too! Nothing wrong asking for a little assistance. *Good information from Beth too about covering your personality and such, for this I’d make a seperate video and have someone older more or less ‘interview’ you and those you’ll have in your corner.*
Four, once people start seeing and hearing you, thing’s will progress quickly. Remember this: Do NOT jump at Any Offers. If and when you’re contacted, get EVERYTHING in writting and have your parents / guardian foot the bill ( do an IOU if nesessary ) to have not one but TWO types of attorney’s read them (it) over. One for Contractual Law ( Labor Specific due to your age. Dislike like saying this, but you fall under the Child Labor Laws and your talents and hard work don’t need to be exploited! ) and Two an attorney who knows good with general practice, estate planing and such. Seriously, it’s a shock to go from collecting pop-cans for gas, to having a private driver at your becon call.
Many Labels sign undiscovered talents and I know personally, one of the resources I mentioned herein is looked at by a number of scouts!!
