That distinctive ABBA sound, those girls, the songcraft, the joy that wraps around it, all signifies something which defies words. Verbal expression fails to convey the meaning. It’s a living consciousness – wonderous, surreal, and frightful.
ABBA endures, and their influence blooms, as it should be.
    Brilliant post ‘wonderfulYou’.

The logo in the upper right corner tells that this is a cut from a program on the Swedish state TV channel SVT 2.

This video really shows how important Frida and Agnetha are to the ABBA sound- when they start singing I went “oh my god’-it was that angelic.

Micke Tretow is great but not the only one that could count as another “abba member”. Many said the same of Stickan Andersson for his part in early abba writing as well as in earlier B&B schlagers.

Myself I would include bassist Ruther Gunnarson who wrote early string arrangements or Anders Eljas who did the same later on (and played second keyboard/piano on tour).

Lasse Wellander, Ola Brunkert, Per Lindvall, Janne Schaffer, etc made significant contibutions to the “abba sound” as well.

This is not from “The Winner Takes It All” documentary, at least not the DVD version. I would LOVE to know where this comes from, and what else was in the original program!

There is no doubt ABBA’s music was / still is amazing. Their producer did play a huge part in creating the “wall of sound” for them.

I agree that writers and composers create the song and the producer polishes it all up. But many have described Stig Anderson as the 5th member of ABBA. He co-wrote many of the lyrics for them, and with them until around 1977

A person that couldn’t carry a tune in a bucket, can sound great on a cd/dvd or video – but that because of the production.

  15. cdnut Says:

I think that was Nile Rodgers from the disco group Chic.

    Who is that at 2:30?

  17. teqwindotcom Says:

ABBA could of recorded there music on a 2 track and it still would of sold. Producers are not as important as writters, basicly they press record and play. Very insulting calling the producer the 5th member

I am a Producer, writter , composer ,so no the difference of the 2 and the importance of both and there roll

this is a very in mature comment.

Production is a taught skill that any one can learn.

Writting the music and hooks is the difficult part, if you what you say is true then every single artist that Micahel B Tretow produced should of been as Big as ABBA.

    Its always the song writters.

Quite insulting comment to great writters
