Kerchoonz, the social media networking group, is partnering with cult Mancunian online TV show, “Our House”, in a bid to help promote regional UK musical talent.

The announcement follows on from the “Kerchoonz Live” sessions in December last year, when indie artists were invited to upload their music onto the Kerchoonz. com site, the winners going on to perform in front of a live studio audience at the House of Rock studios in Glasgow and receiving cash prizes, promotion in hard press, world-wide blog networking, professional live studio recordings and interview sessions with top journalists around the globe.

Our House is fast becoming recognised as the platform for showcasing indie musical talent. A mixture of music, guests and celebrity guest presenters, with interviews being held on the sofa and live performances in the living room, acts lined up for this year include:

* Tim Scott, a guitarist who works alongside Judge Jules in Ibiza* Frank Bembini of the Fun Lovin Criminals* Kristyna Miles, who has toured with Simply Red* The 66, Violet Youth, Donna Marie, Darren Poyzer, Kranius and The Harks

In addition to this line-up, special guests will include Terry Longden, the TV and radio celebrity who also happens to be the nephew of Ozzy Osbourne, and Alan Fletcher, aka Dr Karl Kennedy in Neighbours, whose band is touring the UK this year.

Indiana Gregg, co-founder of Kerchoonz, says: “The Kerchoonz Live sessions are dedicated to supporting live entertainment and showing off some of the world’s best raw talent. Similarly, Our House has exactly the same philosophy, cutting through the bull that often fuels the music industry and setting its sights firmly on giving musicians a helping hand, whilst providing entertainment to music lovers everywhere. We have joined forces to do just that, and the signs suggest that Our House is set to really take off”.

Claire Curran, producer and presenter of Our House agrees. She says: “Mancunians are truly some of the most passionate music lovers in the world, indeed producing some of the best bands from the last twenty years and so it is fitting that Our House is filmed in Manchester. With the help of Kerchoonz, we will continue to attract and air bands worthy of attention from around the UK, giving them much needed publicity, as well as having our legendary in-depth conversations on the sofa with fascinating guests. We believe that both Kerchoonz and Our House will show musicians that the traditional process of finding an agent and a record deal is not the only route to success. ”

The episodes will be aired weekly, with the first episode being shown on 30 July at http://www. kerchoonz. com/ourhouse

Alternative Rock singer-songwriter Kirsten DeHaan has confirmed her latest release on SirLady Records: a five song EP dubbed “Thorns On A Crown” that is by far her most mature work to date. The new EP encompasses the sweetness of Liz Phair, a soft, airy quality like that of Sia, and the rich alto of Fiona Apple. Digital music distributor and licensing company Oseao Media Group will be making the EP available through major online retail stores on October 6th, 2009. When describing her latest offering,” Thorns On A Crown” Kirsten notes, “This record, without exception, finally exemplifies who I am as an artist. . . Its alive, clear, and gripping. I wanted to make a very raw record, one that can’t hide, I think that goal has been accomplished. “Kirsten has a lovely vocal range layered over innovative melodies and catchy chord progressions. The songs on her five-track EP extend over a range of toe-tapping to somber. The melody of the track “1984″ coupled with the guitar wah pedal effect gives it a 60’s psychedelic feel. The guitar intro then serves as an excellent backdrop through the entire song. Music lovers can download a free MP3 of “1984″ from her website at http://www. kdlocal. comThe single string guitar riff in “Double or Nothing” meshes in with the bass line very nicely giving it a Dave Matthews Band groove. The track “The Night Shift” has a Pink Floyd feel to it, which midway through introduces a samba like rhythm. In the track “I’m Coming Home,” Kirsten stays true to some of her influences like Bob Dylan evidenced by the use of the harmonica. This track also captures Kirsten exhibiting a decent vibrato. While at first inconspicuous and gentle, “Ms. Daisy” easily works its way into the listener?s subconscious through Kirsten’s melodious and colorful voice. “My primary goal as a singer/songwriter and for ‘Thorns On A Crown’ is to make my music as tight as possible,” explained Kirsten. “After many years of writing my own work and playing with various musicians, I’m working with my guys, which, in my view, has created the ultimate band recording with just five instruments. Paul Amorese on drums, Jamie Sturm on guitar, Shawn Setaro on bass, and myself on guitar, vocals, and harmonica. “DeHaan stomped onto the indie music scene in 2004 when she released her first album “Conform. ” Reviewers compared her music to that of Nirvana, U2, and Belly. MTV struck licensing deals to play her songs Commotion and Saved on hit reality shows Made and My Super Sweet Sixteen. Garageband rated her #16 Best Female Vocals in Pop/Rock, all time, and FreshFarmMusic. com declared “Conform” one of the most popular records next to the Killers and Ashlee Simpson. In addition, Kirsten was one of five artists chosen for Men’s Vogue/Hennessey Flaunt Your Taste Critics Choice Awards this past year. DeHaan also strives to promote and foster the indie music scene in New York City. She started the New York Indie Rock Launch in early 2006 to bring the best New York artists of various rock genres together under one roof. Promoting entirely on a grass roots level (a flyer to flyer basis), the first Launch sold out quickly and found tremendous success. DeHaan continued the series in 2007 and again in July 2008 at the Galapagos Art Space in Brooklyn. http://www. kdlocal. comhttp://kirstendehaan. musicdish. nethttp://www. reverbnation. com/kirstendehaanhttp://twitter. com/KDLocalFor CD or mp3 tracks as well as interview request, contact:Eric de FontenayMusicDishhttp://kirstendehaan. musicdish. netkistendehaan@musicdish. net+1 718 278 0662

Starbucks and holiday commercial jingles aside, the holiday season is continually marked with joyful holiday albums and Christmas songs sung by classic belters like Bing Crosby or Josh Groban. This year’s record sales and album releases, however, may prove this old tradition to be one of the past. The rise in indie music and its infiltration into American society has been swaying teenage populations for the last several years, and this holiday season marks one of the very first where “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” may not be heard in the traditional manor. Aimee Mann, an indie rocker whose solo talents have taken her eons away from her ’80s new wave pop group ‘Til Tuesday, has been basking in this success of the indie Christmas phenomenon, and many other underground rock groups are right on her heels.
Proving that indie lovers don’t have to fall into the ordinary mold to get into the holiday spirit, acts such as Sufjan Stevens, Rosie Thomas, the Raveonettes, Merge and more are knocking down the doors of the recording industry with great avail in recording and producing some of this season’s best-selling holiday albums. Aimee Mann’s One More Drifter in the Snow, a 2006 holiday compilation, has sold more than 39,000 copies since its release, while Sufjan Stevens’ Songs for Christmas, another eclectic spin on holiday tunes, has sold 81,000 copies since its release in ‘06. Mixing the traditional with the inventive, Mann has arrived at a clever middle ground in between traditional Christmas and modern indie music, using her ’40s/’50s appeal to chirp songs like “Whatever Happened to Christmas,” “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” “Winter Wonderland,” “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and “White Christmas,” all included on One More Drifter in the Snow.
Before she was known for her holiday music and ’40s charm, Aimee Mann was seen clawing at the charts with her post-new wave pop band ‘Til Tuesday, a clever effort broken up after three albums were released in the 1980s. Continuing to forge the music industry as a solo act, Mann breezed into the ’90s with her first solo release Whatever, an album that gained her much popularity in the pop underground. Earning the respect of musicians like Elvis Costello, Difford & Tilbrook and Andy Partridge, Aimee Mann went on to release a smash single entitled “That’s Just What You Are” in 1995. The song was included on the soundtrack to the television show Melrose Place, but before Mann could become the star she was waiting to be, her record label Imago filed for bankruptcy, leaving the vocalist out in the cold.
After enormous efforts in the late ’90s to reroute her track, Aimee Mann made a strong comeback in the early 2000s, starting with the soundtrack to the film Magnolia in 2000. Albums Bachelor No. 2 (2000) and Lost in Space (2002) illuminated her star, and Mann’s 2005 release The Forgotten Arm even earned a Grammy Award for Best Recording Package. Mann successfully tried her hand at a holiday album in 2006’s One More Drifter in the Snow, and her most recent album @#%&*! Smilers is currently blowing up the charts. Mann’s incredible holiday release sparked an annual Christmastime tour, and you can find Aimee Mann tickets for the show at http://www. stubhub. com/aimee-mann-tickets.

Wedding music nowadays doesn’t have to be the same classical chamber stuff. Get out of the traditional music claptrap. Put some zest and beat on your music, from the dinner rehearsal, to the ceremony, up to the reception. Heat your wedding up with Indie rock.

Get your guests on their feet and jazzle up your wedding with high energy and refreshing indie covers from Blur/Oasis, Green Day, Kaiser Chiefs, Kings of Leon and a number of other Indie rock bands. Set the perfect wedding vibe and lighten your guests’ hearts with all-time favorites from Beatles and Stevie Wonder. Steer away from the usual cheesy stuff from Carpenters, Celine Dion, and ABBA. It is high time to indulge in a more refreshing and fun beat—that of Indie rock.

Getting the perfect band to play your Indie rock selection is a challenging task. You would not want to have somebody doing a poor imitation of Indie rock. What you need is a professional band that can do Indie rock with the best of them. You can start the search by going out on bars and pubs and watch bands on their gigs. Got no time? Then, explore the net and watch sample videos and audios.  Search for the band that fits to your taste and can play an amazing wedding music and with a great Indie music with them. Choose your wedding band wisely!.

Give your guests the ultimate Indie treatment. Give up the waltz. Transform your wedding to a dance party fusion.

I love Wizard Rock (if you don’t know what that is, it’s bands that play music about Harry Potter). One of my favorite aspects of it is the indie feel of it, the small concerts, no record labels on the CD’s etc. But I know that Wizard Rock won’t last forever (even though the memories will always be in my heart) and I want to get into other indy kind of bands. But I don’t know where to start! Any suggestions you can give me are appreciated. Thank you!
