Excerpt from Yehudi Menuhin’s excellent television series “The Music of Man” in which Menuhin discusses recording vs the concert hall experience with Glenn Gould. The video quality is rather low because the video is in VHS, and I had to use my digital camera to record it as it played on my (poor quality) television screen. Nevertheless, the content (if not the recording quality) is great.

If you are a guitar or bass player and want to use your Ubuntu system to practice or record, this is how you can do it. This video uses Rakarrack (for effects processing), Audacity (to record), and Jack Control (to wire up the inputs and outputs) in Ubuntu. This video is keeping the theme of “no terminal” usage of Ubuntu; however, when I installed jack control it did make me paste 2 commands into the terminal. They might not have been required as they were used to provide faster real time recording, but installing jack control is a small bit more complicated then just clicking install

Untill I get to making an ebook on how I made this , this is my studio in a roadcase. I designed and built this mobile studio for personal music recording. I made this video to inspire others that they too can make this very useful midi studio aswell. This a Protools (Mbox2Pro) set up with an Apple Macbook 2hz. It works fantastic. Within this roadcase are my Yamaha Hs40 studio monitors, my microphones and their stands..generally all I’ll need to record crystal clear music . Inside as well I have installed a 1 TB hardrive.
I’m currently running an old windows 98se and using it for music recording.
i can get quite good recordings, but would really like to find out how i could improve the quality of the recordings without having to spend lots of money on a whole new set up.
(e.g. little things like increase ram etc.)
hope you can help
For the game I’m going to make (with help from a programmer friend — I’m a 3d artist) I will need a good soundtrack (I already have the band I need, but the band lacks proper recording equipment). So I need an inexpensive USB music recording microphone (not one that cuts out background noise — because that’ll ruin the music). A good quality, inexpensive, usb, music recording, mic….thanks in advance

I am looking for a program that I can put on my computer so that I can record me singing and put it on a cd. I am not the most knowledgeable person when it comes to computers and I do not have a ton of money to spend. What are some cheap and easy software programs that I could buy to use for this? Where can I buy them? Thanks! ![]()
